Reddit, the "Hidden Treasure" of the Internet
GREAT FIND #3: REDDIT.COM
Just to clear out the title of this article, no, i'm not claiming that Reddit is the best of the internet, but I am only saying that Reddit is a treasure that is not well known enough and is not given the credit and appreciation it rightfully deserves.
Anyway, there's a 50-50 chance you've heard of reddit although it's also a very popular social media platform, compared to Facebook, twitter or instagram that most people actually knows of. And you know what? This is one of your luckiest days. To read this article means finding one of the greatest finds you'll ever have in your life (at least in my case this true).
So, what is reddit and what makes it a great find?
From Wikipedia's definition:
Reddit is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Reddit's registered community members can submit content such as text posts or direct links. Registered users can then vote submissions up or down that determines their position on the page. Submissions with the most up-votes appear on the front page or the top of a category. Content entries are organized by areas of interest called "subreddits". Subreddit topics include news, science, gaming, movies, music, books, fitness, food, image-sharing, and many others. The site prohibits harassment, and moderation requires substantial resources.
You know what? I suggest you just visit Reddit and see for yourself. I don't remember a single moment wherein Wikipedia actually made interested in something.
The image above is a screenshot of Reddit's frontpage. I know, i know, it looks like a website from the 90s, right? I think everyone probably agrees, even Redditors (users of Reddit), that Reddit's interface is very unattractive and boring to look at. It's so boring that the first time I actually opened Reddit, i did not bother to look further into it, I intermediately closed it after a few seconds just because of how boring it is. But trust me, give it a chance, try looking further into it. I suggest that you look at the top posts of all time first, there you can see Reddit's most upvoted posts and the most popular. By then, you will probably get an idea of what Reddit really is.
Reddit has this upvote and downvoted functions where you can upvote a post or comment if you like it or downvote if you don't. It's kind of similar to facebook's like button. Except, Reddit has it's unlike button. In this way, great posts or comments will reach the frontpage of Reddit and would likely be seen by most people. This makes sure that Reddit's frontpage will always feature quality content and contents that are not of quality (maybe a racist
comment or post, a hateful posts, or simply a shit post).
Aside from that, what makes Reddit a gold mine for interesting and useful knowledge is because of the existence of subreddits. Subreddits are like mini-communities that is mainly about a single subject. Like /r/AskReddit, where people would post comments that is regarded to all of Reddit or /r/wholesomememes, where you can see a lot of memes but wholesome ones.
And the another feature of Reddit that I like the most is how anonymous you can be on that site. It doesn't require you to create a profile, it almost doesn't require to share anything to them. You can create as many accounts as you want and never be found out. In Reddit, you can probably stay anonymous that rest of your life (unless you're stupid). It's basically the perfect social media site (for me at least), you can interact with people and talk to them without being judge as to what you look like or who you are. In Reddit, your occupation, your physical appearance, your social status doesn't matter, it's your opinion that matters. One of my favorite statements about this to Reddit is from the wix.com, the author of the article says that:
Reddit is not a social network that encourages (or imposes) the type of non-stop exhibitionism that you find on so many other social platforms. A redditor’s profile only shows you their previous threads and their ranking – no relationship status, business CV or anything like that.
So, if you want to stay away with fame whores, duck faces, relationship status shit posts, and excessive selfies, Reddit is the right place to go!
And lastly, what makes Reddit so great and unique to other social media networks, are the Redditors, or the users itself. People of Reddit, in general, is very helpful. They come from different sectors of the industry and of different ages. (Hell! Even 4 years old are in Reddit!) You can learn a lot from this people and may have great interactions with them too. They may make your night, your week, your whole year and may even change your life! They will give out free things, help you when youre really indeed, give you out free legal advice and services, they will cheer you up if you are lonely and one of my most favorite thing that they do is that, when it's someone birthday in Reddit, and if you are celebrating it alone or if you are broke, they are willing to throw up a party for you or invite you for a drink or celebration, actually, a lot of them have sent actual gifts to birthday celebrants! And, you will be very surprised on how almost everyone is smart and/or knowledgeable. (This doesn't mean that if you use Reddit, you are smart. Many egotistical and self-proclaimed smart Redditors actually thinks this). It's an observation you will get about Redditors as you use Reddit longer! And Redditors are hella funny too!

So, that's it guys. That's my take on Reddit but I probably didn't give enough justice to Reddit's greatness enough. So I greatly suggest that you go on and open a new tab, then type on Reddit.com and enjoy the site to your heart's consent!
